‘Unbelievable…Newcastle Are Causing So Much Trouble’ – Pundit reacts to ‘Unlawful’ development

Frank McAvennie has hailed Newcastle and Man City for standing against the latest Premier League rule changes.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, branded the new rules as “not on”.

As reported by The Guardian (18 October) 18 Premier League clubs voted through legislation designed to prevent Newcastle’s new owners from striking lucrative sponsorship deals.

The report claims Newcastle and Man City didn’t vote in favour of the new legislation as they believed the rule change to be “unlawful”.

McAvennie predicts the new rule will be overturned and slammed the other 18 Premier League clubs.

“Man City and Newcastle didn’t vote in favour, and rightly so,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You can’t just change the rules to suit you now the decision has been signed off.

“That’s not right. I get why the other big teams are nervous. There is far more competition now.

“But you can’t limit how other clubs operate because you don’t like the owners.

“I think that will get overturned. I read somewhere that it isn’t legal. It’s not on.

“That wouldn’t surprise me. When has the law ever stopped the big clubs from doing something?

“It’s so hard to believe how much trouble Newcastle are causing now they have been taken over.”

Newcastle are arguably the wealthiest club in the world after their Saudi-backed takeover was signed off two weeks ago.

City have been one of world football’s powerhouses since they were taken over by Sheikh Mansour in 2008.
