Plenty of Newcastle United fans were left perplexed after reports suggested there would be a delay in the official takeover of the club.
A consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and backed by Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers, have agreed a £300m change of ownership to take the Tyneside club out of the hands of retail tycoon Mike Ashley, who has been at the helm for 13 years.
However, the Daily Mail revealed that we are now facing fresh questions from the Premier League over their human rights record, links to pirate television and the potential influence they could have over Sheffield United’s owner Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad.
Under new ownership, will we win the Premier League in the next 10 years?
This comes as all potential investors need to pass the league’s rigorous ‘owners’ and directors’ test‘, which investigates the past of any specific person to see whether they are capable of running a football club.
Because of this, supporters were confused with the news and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan wanted answers by saying “what actually is going on”.
How’ve we went from imminent announcement to “its gonna take some time” in about 3 minutes https://t.co/LI6XzLCOzj
