Report: Newcastle United linked with stunning swoop to sign 341-goal superstar

Newcastle United have been linked with an audacious move to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports.

Who would have thought we would have ever been linked with a player of his magnitude and pedigree?

Nicknamed ‘El Matador‘, Cavani will become a free agent this summer when his contract comes to an end at the Parc des Princes when the 2019/20 campaign comes to a close.

According to ESPN, the club’s interested buyers, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), have been in contact with his agent for a possible move to St James’ Park in time for the 2020/21 season.

The Uruguay international and the Copa America winner moved to the French capital in 2013 from Serie A side Napoli for £55m, where he scored a remarkable 104 goals in 138 appearances for Gli Azzurri.

Since then, Cavani has gone to make over 300 outings for Les Parisiens and has found the net 200 times with 43 assists. During the current campaign, he has only started seven times which could be an indication that his time in France is pretty much over. In total, he has managed to score 341 goals, which includes the 37 he got while playing for Palermo during the early stages of his career.

Nevertheless, after signing Joelinton in the summer for £40m, imagine being able to predict that Cavani would be the next name on all of our lips.

These are extraordinary times to be a Newcastle fan, and it is all down to whether retail tycoon Mike Ashley decides to sell the club. With football currently suspended, all eyes are on events going on off the pitch as St James’ Park anxiously await news of the £300m takeover by PIF, backed by Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers.

Let’s all hope that Ashley’s reign of terror is about to end and that players that Cavani can come through the door and make the dominant driving force of English football that we have all craved.
