Plenty of Newcastle United fans have been reacting in delight to the most recent reports regarding the club’s takeover talks.
According to the Daily Mail, head of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund Yasir Al-Rumayyan is in the final stages of taking over as chairman of the Magpies as part of a £300m takeover of the club from retail tycoon Mike Ashley.
Al-Rumayyan is known to be one of the most powerful men in Saudi Arabia and is also chairman of the biggest oil company in the world, Saudi Aramco.
Will this takeover go through?
If the deal goes through, this will bring to an end Ashley’s reign of terror, after gaining full control of our club for £137m back in 2007. For many years, we have wanted to see the back of him for a long time, and after 13 years, his era could be brought to an end.
Unsurprisingly, supporters were delighted with the latest update and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that reading this has perked him up, while another said that this was “gargantuan”.
