‘Drop him’, ‘Centre half’ – These NUFC fans respond to Bruce’s suggestion of a change in position

Many Newcastle United fans have given their response on Twitter to rumours that Joelinton could be playing out wide against Burnley.

According to a story in The Chronicle, United are toying with the idea of playing him in Allan Saint-Maximin’s position due to a hamstring injury ruling him out until the new year.

Steve Bruce revealed this to the outlet, suggesting that Joelinton is capable of doing it as he often played there for Hoffenheim.

With injuries to Matt Ritchie, the Magpies are a little bit short on the flank, with Christian Atsu being the next most likely to candidate to appear for the team.

However, with Joelinton occupying the flanks, it would clear the path for Andy Carroll – who has now registered two assists in two games – to play up front.

Lots of fans responded to a tweet by The Chronicle about the story with a variety of responses. Some suggested it could work, while others said that the Brazillian should get dropped.

With Joelinton only scoring one goal and one assist so far this campaign, it hasn’t been the greatest of starts for the forward considering his £40m transfer fee.

On the contrary, he hasn’t had the easiest of jobs considering Bruce’s rigid 5-4-1, and the club can hardly be too annoyed as they sit with 22 points after 16 games and are just two points short of fifth.
