A few Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to Steve Bruce’s worrying update that Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron are doubts to face Burnley, having already lost Allan Saint-Maximin.
Bruce confirmed the news during his pre-game press conference on Friday, noting that Shelvey and Almiron have sustained muscle issues in the lead up to our trip to Turf Moor on Saturday.
Shelvey’s gripe has been put down to the midfielder having a sore calf, while Almiron has felt tightness in his hamstring and will be assessed throughout training before a final judgment will be made.
They could now join Saint-Maximin on the sidelines for this weekend’s game, after the French winger was ruled out for the festive schedule with a hamstring injury, suffered while running at 38.6km/h in the 96th-minute of our win over Southampton.
Can we cope without Almiron and Shelvey?
No, they're vital
Shelvey, meanwhile, returned to the starting line-up away to West Ham United in November and has not missed a minute since, while scoring in our last two top-flight games.

This is why Rafa rotated so much earlier in the season. He got huge abuse for ‘not knowing what his best team are’ but the relative lack of muscle injuries for us during his tenure compared to others bore out the sense in it #nufc
