Lots of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after Isaac Hayden took to Twitter to reflect on Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to Southampton.
Second-half goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Federico Fernandez overturned a 52nd-minute Danny Ings opener at St. James’ Park, on a day the Toon’s performance swung heavily following the introduction of Andy Carroll after club-record £40million man Joelinton struggled to make an impact.
Hayden has described the performance offered by Steve Bruce’s men as “not a great spectacle”, and suggested that his personal display was below the standard he likes to set for himself.
“Not a great spectacle and not my best game in a Black and White shirt, that’s for sure,” the 24-year-old noted. “But a huge week with seven points from nine. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do for the points. Thank you for your support.”

I thought you were outstanding! Covered a hell of amount of grass and didn’t hide from anything. That sort of performance doesn’t go in noticed

Agreed, awful game. However, another 3 points. Your engine and selfless hard work continues to be the foundation for anything we get in games like today. Keep it up!

Always good to set yourself high standards, but I thought you were brilliant today. You know, more than most, that a good effort is all #nufc fans want to see, but you offer that and much more, you left nothing on that pitch today 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
