Newcastle Should Look At Young American To Bolster Academy

Recently it was reported that Steve Bruce wanted to have four to five youth players pushing for the first team at any given time. To accomplish this, they are going to have to bring some top talent into the Academy.

This past summer, Newcastle drafted three free agents into the Under-23 ranks in midfielder Kyle Scott, goalkeeper Jake Turner, and defender Ludwig Francillette. We have also been linked with some top 17-year-olds in recent months in Rochdale’s Luke Matheson, Queens Park’s Reagan Thomson, and Hearts’ Aaron Hickey.

Newcastle were also linked with 18-year-olds Moussa Sissako, a defender from PSG, and Facundo Calidio, a forward from Inter Milan this summer.

These are the types of players that Newcastle should be looking to bring into the youth ranks if they want to have a top-level Academy.

An 18-year-old that Newcastle have not been linked with but is showing great promise is Wolfsburg winger Ulysses Llanez.

Ulysses Llanez– young American impressing for Wolfsburg U19s

The 18-year-old American has been devouring the U-19 Bundesliga Nord division. He has already scored 10 goals with 2 assists in just 8 games for the Wolfsburg Under-19 side.

Llanez joined Wolfsburg this summer as a free agent from LA Galaxy’s Academy. He is a current United States U-20 international and can play on either wing or as a striker.

While he has just joined Wolfsburg this summer, he is one to keep an eye out for to see how he progresses. He is likely to get the call-up to the Wolfsburg reserve team at some point this season. If he can contribute at that level like he has for the U-19s, he could be worth a look for Newcastle.

Here is the 10th goal that Llanez scored for the Wolfsburg U19s just a few days ago.
