There is a new report that Mexican group Orlegi are still pushing to get a deal for Newcastle over the line. This new report comes from the Athletic’s David Ornstein, who also reported of a meeting in London between Mexican businessman and Mike Ashley.
In his latest reporting, Ornstein confirms that it was in fact members of Orlegi who Ashley met with last month. The meeting supposedly was quite contentious and ended abruptly.
This new report says that Orlegi, who are run by Alejandro Irarragorri, are now confident that a deal can happen.

Per Ornstein’s sources, Orlegi are serious bidders and have an offer pending with their mergers and acquisitions group. They have also sought out advice from prominent football figures on Newcastle. Though none of those people were identified by name.
However, the Chronicle have followed up on this most recent claim. They are reporting that it is ‘business as usual’ at St James Park.
This seems to us to be in the same gray area as Peter Kenyon and BZG. It doesn’t look like any of the three are anywhere close to get a deal completed despite their noises in the press. There are also big questions whether they have the funds to even get close.
We don’t doubt the authenticity of their interest in a takeover of Newcastle United. We just don’t think they can offer Mike Ashley the type of deal that would convince him to sell up. We’re not sure anyone can to be honest. He doesn’t strike us to be a willing seller.
