There is a report in The Times that Newcastle will pursue Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in January.
Exclusive: Steve Bruce ready to offer lifeline to Granit Xhaka

Xhaka has not been in the Arsenal squad since his incident leaving the pitch against Crystal Palace two weeks ago. The Arsenal captain was booed when substituted at the Emirates. Xhaka taunted the fans as he walked off the pitch and down the tunnel.
There have been recent reports that Arsenal will try to offload the Swiss international in the winter window.
This is not the first time Newcastle have been linked with Xhaka. We were reported to have an interest in the midfielder in 2015 when he played for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
The defensive midfielder just turned 27 in September and is pushing the boundary of our transfer age limit. Though maybe Newcastle could bring Xhaka in on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Xhaka joined Arsenal in the summer of 2016 for around £40m. He has since made 144 appearance with 11 goals and 17 assists at the Emirates.
His contract at Arsenal runs until 2023 but he should have plenty of suitors if he is indeed available. We wouldn’t mind seeing him in the midfield at St James Park but just don’t see this one happening.
