In what was hopefully a sign of things to come, Newcastle’s attack was unleashed against West Ham this past weekend. To say it was coming would be a stretch for even the most ardent optimist.
In the previous five matches, Newcastle had just 2 goals and 9 shots on target. Newcastle scored 3 and had 9 shots on target at West Ham in their best all-around performance of the year.
If Newcastle can build on the attacking bent shown at West Ham while keeping their defensive standard of the past month, they should be good stead for the rest of this season.
The poll for our Man of the Match for West Ham reflects Newcastle’s new charging spirit. The man who seems born to attack has claimed almost 50% of the 2,422 votes cast.
Allan Saint-Maximin collected 1,182 of the votes to win Newcastle’s best player poll for a second week running. Last week for the Wolves match, the Frenchman easily won with 35%.
Coming in second place was Jonjo Shelvey, with 22% of the vote. This was an excellent return to the starting eleven for Jonjo. He scored his second goal of the season and was instrumental in Newcastle’s forward-thinking approach to this game.
Miguel Almiron came in third with 9% of the vote. He was also outstanding as he battled at both ends of the pitch, the willing runner that he is.
But our player of the month for October, Allan Saint-Maximin has come out on top as the Man of the Match this week and deservedly so.
