Newcastle were first linked to QPR left-back Ryan Manning three weeks ago.
The same publication with the original link, Football Insider, have a new report that Newcastle scouted the 23-year-old in QPR’s 2-0 defeat to Leeds yesterday.
Manning’s form this season has resulted in a call-up to the full Republic of Ireland squad for the November internationals. He previously represented his country at the U-21 level with 7 appearances.
Here is a recent quote from Ireland manager Mick McCarthy about Manning.
— FAIreland ???? (@FAIreland) October 29, 2019
Manning has been an attacking force for QPR and his 30 chances created is near the top of the Championship. He is an outstanding crosser of the ball and has the pace to get up and down the flank.
He has been a bit of a defensive liability at times. However, he just transitioned to the left wing-back position late last season.
Manning’s contract expires this summer but QPR have an option to extend it another year. He would reportedly only cost around £2-3m if Newcastle were to make a move for him in January.
While Newcastle are likely to take up the option to make Jetro Willems’s move a permanent one, Matt Ritchie’s contract only runs until 2021. Manning could be seen as a possible replacement for Ritchie if a compromise on a new deal cannot be reached.
