Newcastle are reportedly close to signing Queens Park midfielder Reagan Thomson according to the Daily Record. The Scotland U-17 international is just 16-years-old and would presumably link up with Neil Redfearn’s Under-23s if signed.
Queens Park is an amateur club that plays in Scotland’s League Two which is the fourth tier. This is Thomson’s first year with the senior side as he just turned 16 in August.
He has 8 appearances this season however, only one of those is a start in the league. He has 3 caps for the Scotland U-17 side and was reportedly scouted by Newcastle when they played Iceland last week. The teenager shined in the match with 2 assists.
Celtic and Rangers also had scouts at the match to watch the youngster. However, it looks like Newcastle may be in the lead to capture Thomson’s signature.
Newcastle were also reported to be scouting Hearts teenage midfielder Aaron Hickey last week as well.
