‘It’ll cost somebody a fortune’ – Sky pundit shares verdict after Bruce confirms Newcastle talks

Steve Bruce has confirmed that are in talks over new contracts for Sean and Matty Longstaff – and that is a major boost for the fans according to Sky Sports pundit .

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, as quoted by the Shields Gazette, Bruce revealed that Lee Charnley had been holding talks with a host of players about new deals after Martin Dubravka’s new six-year contract was wrapped up this week.

Mills believes that new deals for the Longstaff brothers could end up with them fetching a lot of money for Newcastle in the future.

“It’s always nice for homegrown players to get an opportunity. There’s a real affiliation with homegrown players, especially up at Newcastle where we know how different the fanbase is to a lot of other football clubs,” Mills told Football Insider.

“The Geordies, it’s almost a country in themselves, they have their own language, have their own principles, it’s absolutely phenomenal.

“That will give them a bit of a boost. It’ll tie them down long-term, stop them going anywhere or if they are to go anywhere it’ll cost somebody a fortune. Hopefully, that will give the fans a bit of a boost, they’ll keep supporting and in turn that will help the team.”

OPINION

Sean and Matty Longstaff are two good young players who are yet to reach their potential. Sean has been in the Magpies’ side for most of 2019 and is starting to look like a very accomplished Premier League midfielder who could one day go on to play for England. It remains to be seen how Matty’s development progresses because he has only played two times in the league. His debut against Manchester United is something that Newcastle fans won’t forget in a hurry but his display at Chelsea last week was fairly poor. It is expected that young players have inconsistent form and the more they play, the more their performances will level out. Isaac Hayden is suspended for the Wolves match on Sunday so the brothers are likely to start again in the midfield next to each other. Hopefully they can put in performances worthy of a second home win in a row for Bruce’s side.
