Bruce’s Hopes Comes True – At Least Momentarily

With Southampton losing 9-0 at Leicester City yesterday, they have dropped into the bottom three on goal difference. The Saints have also just one point in their last five games, and that was at Wolves last weekend.

Their misfortune is Newcastle’s gain as The Magpies climbed to seventeenth without even playing a match, and will remain in that spot when they face Wolves on Sunday.

Cellar dwellers Watford will host Bournemouth today but are four points adrift from safety, so no matter the result, they will trail Newcastle after this weekend’s fixtures.

Norwich City who are currently in the 19th spot, face Manchester United tomorrow at Carrow Road. The Canaries are just 1 point behind Newcastle but play the late game on Sunday.

Steve Bruce spoke about being in the dreaded relegation zone yesterday at his news conference:

“Nobody wants to be in the bottom 3, but I was always aware the start would be difficult.

“3 points separates 10 or 11 teams, so let’s hope we can get a victory this weekend & start pushing ourselves up the table.

“We’re quietly confident we can do it”

So far, so good on that front. Now we need a win tomorrow to ensure we start a push up the table. Draws are no good, especially at home to teams outside the top six.

Though with the way Leicester City are playing this year, it may be a top seven. Just shows you what a little bit of ambition can do.
