“Rafa found this lad on a budget” – A lot of Newcastle United fans cannot believe Steve Bruce’s comments on Martin Dubravka.
The Slovakian signed a new six-year deal at the club yesterday, and Bruce was delighted that the 30-year-old has committed himself to Newcastle for pretty much the rest of his career.
However, the Toon manager irritated a lot of Toon fans with his comments – as he suggested that he was involved in signing Dubravka by using the word we.
This implies that Bruce is trying to take credit for bringing the Slovakian to the club.
Of course, what he actually means is that Newcastle, as a club, bought Dubravka.
Still, he could have chosen a better word than “we” as it has left him open to ridicule from many Toon fans – who are quick to point out that it was indeed Rafael Benitez that brought the 30-year-old to Tyneside.
See the best of the reaction below.
“He’s a very, very good goalkeeper. We’ve unearthed one, because not a lot of people had heard of him.”

There was no ‘WE’ Rafa found this lad on a budget. Sooner Bruce understands he is out of his depth and not welcome here along with Ashley and Charnley the better.

Reminds me of that time when Steve Bruce kept us up zero net spend with Joselu up front.
