There is news surfacing that Newcastle are interested in Hearts 17-year-old left-back Aaron Hickey. The Chronicle have a report saying Newcastle scouts may have been in attendance to watch the youngster this past Sunday when Hearts drew 1-1 against Rangers.
Hickey made his debut for Hearts last May and has since become a regular for the Scottish club. This season he has started all 12 games in both the league and league cup for Hearts.
While mainly deployed at left-back, Hickey has also played at center-back, right-back, and as a right-sided midfielder this season.
The £1.5m-rated youngster is reportedly in high demand with rumored interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Norwich City, and Southampton in the Premier League. He is also linked to Leeds and QPR in the Championship as well as Rangers in Scotland.
The Scottish Sun has a report linking the youngster to QPR. This is intriguing since Newcastle are said to be monitoring their left-back Ryan Manning for a possible winter move. Could Hickey be seen as Manning’s replacement?
Hickey came through the Hearts Academy but had a brief spell with Celtic. He decided to move back to Hearts two summers ago after he turned 16. Celtic reportedly have a 30% stake in any transfer fee that Hearts receive for him.

However, Hearts are trying their best to hold on to the youngster. They are currently in talks to extend his contract which runs out in 2021.
This is what Hearts manager Craig Levein said last month about Hickey’s contract situation:
“I’m still working on it. I want to just try and get it done with his dad, and then I’ll talk about it.”
The Edinburgh News also report that it is expected that any Premier League club with interest in Hickey will make their move this winter. That is so the player can be classified as homegrown by his 21st birthday.
Premier League clubs must have at least 8 players in their 25 man squad who have been with an English club for at least three years before they turn 21.
We think a move for Hickey makes lots of sense for Newcastle. He would only cost around £1.5-2m if he doesn’t extend his deal and has only just turned 17 in June. Hopefully, Newcastle will make a move for Hickey, and he can swap Tynecastle for Tyneside.
