Last week it was reported that Lewis Gibson was keen on a return to Newcastle after fleeing for Everton two years ago. The latest report came a few weeks after an earlier one claimed Newcastle were going to pursue their former top Academy product.
Lewis Gibson left for Everton in the summer of 2017 for first-team football but has yet to make a first-team appearance at Goodison Park. The initial deal he signed at the time is due to runs it’s course next summer.
It’s unclear if Newcastle will make a run at the 19-year-old center-back this winter or wait to get him on a free in the summer. However, they may want to make their move this winter if the latest news is accurate.
90min is reporting that Dutch clubs Ajax and PSV are in the lead to capture Lewis’s signature.
Lewis Gibson is represented by SEG Sports Entertainment Group, which is based in Amsterdam. This group’s ties to the Netherlands have reportedly given the Eredivisie giants an inside track to Gibson’s signature.
Lending some credence to this report is that SEG represent PSV’s Academy manager Ernest Faber as well as Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. They also represent 3 players from Ajax and 4 from PSV.
However, Newcastle is not to be outdone as some current clients have Newcastle ties as well. Midfielder Dan Barlaser, who is on loan at Rotherham, as well as FC Twente forward Haris Vuckic, himself a Newcastle Academy product, are both represented by SEG.
We really hope that Newcastle can bring Lewis Gibson back to the club either this January or in the summer. While it’s far from certain that he is Premier League quality, we still would like to see him get the chance to prove it at his hometown club.
