While the scoreline was only 1-0, the Newcastle were outmatched in the second half against a young but talented Chelsea team. However, the lads did play well but just couldn’t do enough to get a result out of the match.
There were some good performances especially at the back where the defenders stayed organized despite a barrage of Chelsea chances. Behind them was the ever-present Martin Dubravka making his 59th straight start in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old made some wonderful saves. None better than the stop on Christian Pulisic who found himself free in front of Dubravka from a deflected Callum Hudson-Odoi shot. The sprawling Slovakian somehow managed to keep the ball out of the net.
Martin was outstanding against Chelsea and has been selected as the top Newcastle player for the game. Out of the 1,181 total votes cast, Dubravka collected 388 of them for 33%. Close behind him was the magical Allan Saint-Maximin with 30% of the vote.
Allan too was excellent on Saturday with his powerful runs. He has undoubtedly claimed a first-team place after his last two starts. He brings such excitement to this team.
Following Dubravka and Saint-Maximin in the poll, unsurprisingly were two defenders. Fabian Schar and Ciaran Clark captured the 3rd and 4th spots, each with 8% of the vote.
