Steve Bruce has given his pre-match press conference for the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The topic of the January transfer window came up.
Bruce revealed that he hasn’t had many conversations about targets as he is still assessing his squad.
Bruce: “I haven’t really spoken about the January window yet as I haven’t seen all of what I’ve got here quite yet. Always January is a difficult, difficult window, but we’ll start planning for it in the next couple of weeks” #nufc

This may just be Bruce playing it coy to dampen any expectations. However, we would hope that he has at least met with head scout Steve Nickson on occasion to discuss possible targets.
While we are still over two months away from the window opening,
there should be at least some preliminary discussions on the plans for January.
A lot depends on the shape of the squad and Newcastle placement in the table when the window opens. However, they need to be prepared to make a move if necessary.
Of course, as head coach, Steve Bruce is not as involved with the process as managers at other clubs. However, he does give his final approval on transfers.
Bruce has also seen every player at least in training so he should have a good idea of what he’s got. While Florian Lejeune and Dwight Gayle have yet to make an appearance, they are both well into their careers, and Bruce should know what they can provide.
