National journo responds when asked if reported Peter Kenyon Newcastle takeover is a time-waster

The Sun journalist has responded to a question about whether ’s reported United takeover plan is a time-waster.

The Shields Gazette provided the latest instalment in the Kenyon to Newcastle story a week or so ago, with the news that two new companies had been formed in the United States to facilitate a Magpies takeover.

However, the Newcastle supporters have been burnt before when it comes to takeover rumours, and so one fan took to Twitter to check with Nixon.

“These things never move quickly,” was the national journalist’s eye-opening response… issued on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

This is typical Nixon, really, an entirely prosaic answer to what was a pretty straightforward question. The Sun journalist specialises in being entirely vague when asked questions on Twitter, so we shouldn’t have expected any different when he quizzed on Kenyon’s so-called Newcastle takeover. It was ever thus. The Magpies faithful have been down this road so many times before, with takeover saviours revealing themselves way before a deal has ever been done. It does seem as if current owner Mike Ashley does actually want to sell, but that he is wary of time-wasters and doesn’t want to be led down the garden path only to find out it leads to a dead-end. That was the case with Amanda Staveley, and so he’ll be ignoring any talk of a Kenyon takeover until the former Manchester United and Chelsea chief can provide proof of funds. As Nixon says, these things never more quickly, so all we can do is be patent and hope for the best.
