Newcastle keep close tabs on £17.6m-rated international – Transfer Talk

Newcastle United have sent scouts to keep close tabs on Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to 61Saat.

The Turkish news outlet claims that Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have also sent recruitment experts to cast an eye over the 23-year-old shot-stopper, who has been ever-present for Trabzonspor this season.

Fotospor has recently reported that the Super Lig club wants £17.6million for Cakir amid the Premier League interest that has been shown in him.

OPINION

As it stands, Newcastle do not need a new goalkeeper. However they may be keeping a close eye on Cakir until they sort out Martin Dubravka’s future at St James’ Park. Dubravka is currently in talks over a new contract [Chronicle] after the summer transfer window saw him attract reported interest from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. There is every chance that there could be more interest in the Slovakia international based on his form at St James’ Park, so keeping an eye on possible replacements makes sense. Cakir is a young goalkeeper who is playing regularly and has just started to break into the Turkish national team. But are Newcastle really likely to match that £17.8million valuation for a goalkeeper who has failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 appearances across all competitions this season? It’s not exactly impressive that Cakir has been beaten each time he has played this term.
