The injury situation has been clearing up nicely at Newcastle after a dreadful spell saw up to eight players out at one point.
The only player not back in training yet is Matt Ritchie. He and Florian Lejeune were the two players ruled out through injury for yesterday’s momentous 1-0 victory against Manchester United.
Matt has been out since a Hamza Choudhury tackle damaged his ankle ligaments in the Carabao Cup in late August. Choudhury had another questionable challenge on Mo Salah late in Leicester City’s loss to Liverpool yesterday.
Matt is reportedly nearing a return to training. The original estimation had him missing two months. That would be close to Newcastle’s next match at Chelsea on October 19th.
Matt Ritchie– itching to get back
Sun journalist David Coverdale sat behind Matt Ritchie at St James Park yesterday. This is how he described the 30-year-old.
Matt Ritchie was sat in the row in front of me during that. Showed the same passion as he does on the pitch. Kicked every ball and was barking orders at the players. Great to see. #nufc

It sounds exactly like what we would expect from Matt Ritchie. He would have been thrilled with the big win yesterday.
We have to wonder, though, what state Matty Longstaff would be in this morning if Matt Ritchie had been playing yesterday. Matt does tend to get a bit overzealous during wild celebrations. Matty might have been a bit sore this morning if Ritchie had been on the pitch during his goal.
