Bruce also played Saint-Maximin, who was a threat all afternoon.
Bruce was not many people’s first choice to be the manager of Newcastle, but we have to judge him on results, and though the last two weeks were terrible, this was a massive win, and Bruce deserves credit for the win.
See the best of the reaction below.
Steve Bruce has been slated, and rightly so, for large parts of his reign at the club.
But I think it has to be said, credit to him for bringing in Matty Longstaff, as well as the other changes he made.
He got it right today. He just needs to do it more often. #NUFC

All this praise is nonsense. We #NUFC were dreadful, Man Utd were worse and the game as a whole was a shocker. Fantastic goal by Matty and I’m ecstatic with a win, but let’s not confuse ourselves, we were awful.

He was forced due to suspensions and injuries….he got lucky.

Did he have much choice with current injuries & suspensions? The win was against a very poor Man Utd side I wouldn’t get carried away by praising Bruce. Made up for Longstaff on his debut but Ashley won’t hesitate to sell either of the brothers of the price is right.

Many Newcastle are refusing to credit Bruce.
Wey man, some of the comments on here, can we just not enjoy beating Man U man !!!

Agreed. He, and the team, had a very good day.

Credit where credit is due! He got us a win in a big game. Needs to do better regularly. #NUFC

Other Toon supporters were happy to praise Bruce for the win.
