News: Frenchman was inches away from becoming part of Newcastle United

Bruno Genesio has revealed that he was all set to become the Newcastle United manager if the proposed sale of the club to the BZG Group had gone through.

Speaking to beIN Sports France, the former Lyon boss has claimed that he was going to be the next Newcastle manager but as soon as the takeover fell through that move was called off.

Genesio has now ended up in China managing Beijing Guoan.

The former Lyon boss does not have the best record and was not liked by a lot of Lyon fans – so it would have been an odd move in my opinion, but then again could he be doing any worse than Steve Bruce?

Newcastle have had a tough start to the season with only one win and four goals from the first seven games but what is more worrying is the pathetic performances the Toon have turned in against Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and most recently Leicester City.

Newcastle are in trouble; there is no doubt about that, and this latest comment from Genesio is probably making a few Newcastle fans dream of what might have happened if there had been a takeover.

As they probably believe anyone would be better than Bruce at the moment.
