Michael Chopra has hit back at those who accused him of lying for his previous claims about Steve Bruce and the Newcastle United squad as the Magpies lost 5-0 to Leicester on Sunday.
In an interview with talkSPORT last month, Chopra claimed that senior Newcastle players had told him that “some of the players don’t know their jobs” due to Bruce’s poor management.
However a report by The Athletic followed which claimed that the players were bewildered by the ex-Newcastle striker’s comments to talkSPORT while Bruce also publically hit back at the claims he dubbed as “blatant lies” and “nonsense”.
Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder was covering the match against Leicester on Twitter on Sunday and he posted some rather strong words about the performances of Bruce’s players.
Chopra replied to Ryder, hitting back at those who called him a liar.
“But it’s all lies what I got told haha. Embarrassing,” said Chopra via his personal Twitter account during the game on Sunday.
Newcastle in utter disarray. Nobody seems to know what the game plan is. #nufc

Bruce is never going to admit that what Chopra said was true and Chopra is hardly going to backtrack on his words now when he has stood by them so vehemently. Newcastle are a mess. They may have spent a record-breaking sum of money on players in the summer but that has only papered over the cracks that have formed due to Mike Ashley’s awful ownership at St James’ Park. Ashley could – and should – have done more to keep Rafa Benitez. It never looked like Benitez wanted to leave Tyneside. He wanted to make things work but what he wanted clearly wasn’t something that Ashley was willing to accept. Bruce was brought in to try and unite a squad that was being ripped apart without a manager in charge and only really stayed up last season due to the superb management of Benitez and performances of players like Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, who are no longer in the North-East. It all boils down to Ashley.
