News: Newcastle captain backs 30-year-old international striker

Newcastle United turned in a disgraceful performance in their 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park.

This was an appalling choice by Sky Sports to be their live Saturday evening game.

St James’ was empty, and the football was pathetic. The highlight of the game was when Andy Carroll made his second debut for Newcastle.

After the game, Toon captain Jamaal Lascelles discussed the impact of Carroll.

The 25-year-old believes that the Geordie striker will make a significant impression on Tyneside because of his physicality and presence.

Lascelles was adamant that Carroll will be a good addition to the Toon and is confident that the former Liverpool man will be a key player for Newcastle this season.

Lascelles also talked about the Brighton game and was not bothered that Brighton had most of the ball because “They work all week on passing.”

Does this mean that Newcastle don’t?

In my opinion, having 29% possession at home to a direct rival and not one of the top six is a disgrace, and the only positive for me was the return of Carroll.

Newcastle must move on from this shambolic display.
