“I was there. Amazing” – Many Newcastle fans are reminiscing over happier times

Nine years ago on the 18th of September Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheick Tiote made their Newcastle United debuts.

The Toon won 1-0 at Everton thanks to a wonder goal from Ben Arfa right on the cusp of half time.

Picking up the ball from Wayne Routledge the mercurial winger twisted and turned before shifting the ball onto his left and blasting an unstoppable strike into the far corner of the net.

It was a sign of things to come as in Ben Arfa’s time on Tyneside he developed the penchant for the spectacular.

Tiote, on the other hand, was a powerful presence in midfield throughout and he went on to become one of Newcastle’s most important players until he departed the club in 2017 and later sadly passed away while training for  Beijing Enterprise in China.

Both Ben Arfa and Tiote will never be forgotten on Tyneside for different reasons.

See the best of the reaction below.

These Newcastle fans are drooling over Ben Arfa and how special he was.

Other Toon fans are lamenting Ben Arfa for wasting his talent.

Finally, some Toon supporters just remember that brilliant day at Goodison.
