A few days ago Martin Dubravka revealed that he was very close to signing a new contract with Newcastle. He is currently on the deal he signed when he joined permanently from Sparta Prague last summer.
This is what Martin said on Sunday:
“I’m happy here. Since I came here, people have treated me really well. I can say that I feel at home here. I’m glad that people think that I can stay here for the longer-term.
“It’s such a big honour for me. Hopefully, we can keep our players in the squad, our leaders, and we can build on this.
“We’re in talks. I’m close. That’s what I can say.”
Dubravka has played every minute in the Premier League for Newcastle since making his debut against Manchester United in February 2018. The 16 times capped Slovakian has also grown into one of the leaders at the club.
It makes sense for Newcastle to want to give Martin a better contract. This is especially true in light of the recent interest shown in the 30-year-old by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Martin Dubravka– How much you got, Lee?
Football Insider is reporting that a Newcastle source has revealed that Martin is set to double his wages to £70/week in his new deal. That would make Martin one of the highest-paid players at the club.
If Newcastle can get this deal done, we expect it to the first of many as Newcastle tie down their core group of players to long-term deals.
