News: Newcastle midfielder hopes to represent his country soon

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has admitted that he wants to play for England.

The 24-year-old did, however, admit it would be difficult for him to do so because England already have a lot of midfielders like him who can play in the defensive role.

Hayden believes that Gareth Southgate prefers players with more flair and that he will have to put in some big performances to get a call-up.

The fact Hayden is even talking about an international call-up for England shows how well he has turned his career around.

Just over a year ago after a sending off against Cardiff City the former Arsenal’s man time on Tyneside looked to be over, but he could not seal a move away and instead rotted in the reserves.

Injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame gave Hayden a chance, and he took it – as in the second half of last season, he became indispensable to Newcastle.

Steve Bruce has already marked him out as a man who deserves a new contract and is a key part of the new boss’ plans.

If he were to receive an England call-up, it would complete a remarkable career transformation.
