Sean Longstaff has given an interview for NFUC TV ahead of this week’s match at Anfield against Liverpool. This fixture has a special meaning for Sean as he made his Newcastle debut in the corresponding fixture last year. Sean came on in the 73rd minute for Kenedy on Boxing Day for his first appearance for Newcastle.
A lot has changed for him since, and he spoke to NUFC TV ahead of Saturday’s return to @LFC.

The interview with the 21-year-old is quite a long one. Longstaff delves into his emergence into the first team last year beginning with his first start at St James Park in the FA Cup against Blackburn.
Sean also touches upon how unexpected the run of games he got last season was. Though Sean stated that he had the confidence to use his opportunity as a springboard to staying in the team.
Longstaff then talked about how the injury not only put a halt to his progression but also how he is still trying to get back to his best:
“The injury probably stopped it in its tracks a little bit. Hopefully, this year, I’m getting closer and closer every week to where I was.
“It’s just about getting back to that level now. So I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to hopefully get back there as soon as possible.”
Sean has not returned just yet to the form he showed last season. However, he has still been a presence on the pitch for Newcastle. His work rate and defensive tenacity have been impressive. He covers a lot of ground for Newcastle in the midfield and his commitment to the team ethos is still as remarkable as ever.
