Newcastle Still Scouting Summer Target But Will They Have The Funds To Make Move In January?

The Daily Express are reporting that Newcastle and Southampton have sent scouts to watch Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen this season. Newcastle had also scouted Bowen during a pre-season friendly against Emil Krafth’s Amiens.

The 22-year-old was a top target this summer, but Newcastle were reportedly put off by the £20m price tag Hull put on their young star. The report states that both Newcastle and Southampton are willing to go back in for Bowen this January and are willing to meet the 22-year-old’s £20m price tag.

However, with Bowen’s contract only running until next summer, could he be available for less than the reported £20m? We think that will depend on how many suitors Bowen has in January. If he continues banging in the goals at his current rate, there could be a lot more clubs lining up for his services than just Newcastle and The Saints.

Jarrod Bowen– could be in high demand this winter

Bowen already has 4 goals for Hull after scoring 22 last term. A lot will also depend on where Hull lie in the table come January. They are currently in 20th position in the Championship. They are likely not going to make a promotion run this season.

However, if they still linger near the relegation zone come January, they could see Bowen’s goals as vital to their survival efforts. Therefore, they may not be willing to part with him and rather risk losing him in the summer for nothing.

The Chronicle have a report stating that Newcastle may only have around £15m to spend in the winter. Their report adds together the likely amount paid in agent fees and all other costs that would have come out of the summer transfer budget. The amount they come up with is £75m from the £90m available.

If that is the case, then a move for Bowen may not even be possible if Hull City hold to their £20m valuation for the player. It would be truly a shame if they miss out on such a promising English talent this winter.
