Fabian Schar has had a great start to the Premier League season at Newcastle United. The 27-year-old has started every game under Steve Bruce and has continued where he left off under the management of Rafael Benitez last season. Already scoring once, the Magpies’ enforcer clearly loves to get forward as well as defend, impressively averaging 1.3 shots on goal per game so far [WhoScored]. On top of that, Schar has averaged 3.3 tackles and the same amount of interceptions per game – the most in the entire Newcastle squad so far this season. Going into the international break with Switzerland, the defender looked to continue his form against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday evening. The Swiss international did just that, scoring to put his side into the lead in the second half, on his side’s way to a 1-1 draw. Many Newcastle fans took to Twitter to react to their defender’s international performance, with one even calling for the 27-year-old to win the Ballon d’Or.
