The Newcastle U23s have lost in their first match in their EFL Trophy group. They have lost 2-1 at League 2 club Macclesfield. Luke Charman was able to score for the Magpies, and 16-year-old Joe White made a late substitution appearance. They will next travel to face Shrewsbury on October 8th for their second EFL Trophy match.

Kelland Watts started for Stevenage at home against MK Dons in their EFL Trophy match today. This is the Kelland’s fifth straight start since he joined the League 2 club. However, it was a disappointing result for Stevenage as the fall 0-3 to a team from one league above.

Liam Gibson has made just his third appearance for Grimsby Town in today’s EFL Trophy match at home against Scunthorpe. He got the start and played the full ninety in their 1-2 loss. This is his second straight appearance for Gibson so hopefully he is over his injury woes that have hampered his start to the season.
