Kenedy spent the past season and a half on loan at Newcastle with mixed results. When he first joined in January of 2019, Kenedy helped to transform a struggling Newcastle side.
He slotted in on the left and started all thirteen league games that he was eligible to play in. His arrival also helped spur on Ayoze Perez whose form took a noticeable rise after the Brazilian’s arrival.
This past season, however, was far different for Kenedy. An early-season penalty miss in the closing seconds on a goalless draw at Cardiff seemed to have a lasting effect on the then 22-year-old. He never found the form that he had displayed the season before.
He ended up starting only fourteen games in the league last season. None of those were after the arrival of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United on the winter deadline day. It was Miguel’s arrival that would have a similar effect on Ayoze Perez’s form as Kenedy had the season before.
Now Kenedy will join Getafe on a season-long loan where we hope he can gain some confidence in La Liga. Kenedy made 41 appearances for Newcastle with 3 goals and 3 assists.
