Here are a couple of minutes of highlights from last night’s Carabao Cup loss to Leicester City.
While it’s very disappointing to go out of another cup so early, the lads did perform admirably. They faced a full-strength Leicester side and there was not much between the two teams.
Though Leicester had 68% of the possession, they only managed 3 more attempts on goal than Newcastle. It was a game of few chances that was ultimately decided by penalties.
Some fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the performance of the lads last night.
Yeah, can’t fault the performance.
Considering we had a weakened team out against arguably Leicesters best 11 bar 1 or 2, we were unlucky. The injuries are stacking up which is worrying, but again, this stems from a lack of investment from Ashley and co ????? #NUFC

Thoughts on @NUFC performance vs @LCFC
-M. Longstaff has bright future, never stops running and tidy on the ball
-Defensively we look comfortable in a 5-4-1. Only conceded 1 goal (deflected fk) in 180 mins of football against 2 good teams
-Hayden made some great tackles #NUFC

You can tell most people commenting tonight on Twitter either weren’t at the match or didn’t watch it. Good performance and defensively solid again today, very unlucky. #NUFC

Really good performance tonight considering we had to make changes and how strong the opposition were. Could’ve gone either way and the referee missed a blatant red card. Penalties were a lottery, plenty of positives despite going out. #NUFC

Decent performance. Predictable penalty shoot out defeat. #NUFC

Sickener of a deflection for their goal, but we kept playing the same way. Good performance and 1-1 was a fair reflection. Pens can always go either way; some good pens, some poor pens.
On to Watford #NUFC

Tough on our lads that. Good performance against (almost) Leicester’s strongest team. If that was a PL game we’d be pleased with a point well won by a much changed #NUFC line up. Fede, Willems, Shelvey, Muto, Longstaff-the-younger were all good. Options for the league now.

Much better performance than expected after seeing both starting line-ups. Positives to be taken, players given their chance tonight played well, and their goal had a slice of luck. Struggled to work out 5 penalty takers from the 11 we finished with though! #NUFC

Deserved a result tonight. Good performance #NUFC

Considering the difference in teams that’s not a bad performance #nufc
