Don Hutchinson has predicted a heavy defeat for Newcastle United when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
The BBC pundit believes that the Magpies’ poor start to the season will continue with a 5-0 defeat after two losses on the bounce against Arsenal and Norwich City.
Hutchinson took to his personal Twitter account to make his prediction, with the former West Ham man reckoning Steve Bruce’s side are in for a long afternoon.
“Spurs 5-0 Newcastle today I reckon,” he wrote.
Newcastle have enjoyed their previous three trips to White Hart Lane against Tottenham, winning all of those games at the old stadium, despite losing their last two games away to Spurs at Wembley.
Given how Newcastle have defended so far, a trip to Tottenham is probably not the fixture Bruce wanted to pop up on Sunday. In all honesty, it could be a very long afternoon for the Magpies, who were dismantled way too easily against Norwich City at Carrow Road, and could have scored many more. If Newcastle come out of the traps similar to what they did on that day, the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son could run riot. Bruce must add an extra attacking player to his side to help his defence – with the ball coming back at his back-five way too easily. An extra body upfront would help the Magpies keep a hold of the ball further up the field. At times in the opening two fixtures, it looked like a game of defence against attack with Joelinton and Miguel Almiron way too isolated in the final third. With Allan Saint-Maximin expected to return, Bruce has an extra option with more pace and flair to come in and try and affect the result – with his potential presence in the side surely helping create chances for the Magpies to prove Hutchinson wrong.
