A selection of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on social media, after Sporting CP striker Bas Dost was linked with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Magpies had attempted to land the former Netherlands international in the summer, but saw a loan-to-buy offer rejected by his Liga NOS outfit, who had received several approaches with bids of around €12m (£10.9m) and €15million (£13.6m), according to Record via Sport Witness.
Sporting President Frederico Varandas is said to have ‘promptly’ rejected our advance, and turned away the offers presented from Spanish, German and English clubs, despite the forward’s interest in leaving the Lisbon outfit after three years.
Dost now seems set to leave Portugal for Germany, though, with Record adding that Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in acquiring the 30-year-old in a deal potentially cheaper than those rejected by Sporting earlier in the window.
It is alleged he could cost Die Adler just €10million (£9.1m), however Sport Bild have since reported that negotiations between Adi Hutter’s Commerzbank Arena natives and Dost’s current side have not yet been concluded.
The German publication cite the potential transfer fee as the reason why the Leoes refused to reach an agreement, meaning Dost could not complete his transfer in time to make his Frankfurt debut in the Bundesliga side’s Europa League trip to Strasbourg on Thursday night, but may be signed in time to face RB Leipzig on Sunday.
The official Bundesliga website have also issued reports stating their expectation of Dost arriving back in Germany, having left VfL Wolfsburg for Sporting CP in 2016.
Dost has 93 goals to his name from 127 appearances for Sporting across all competitions, and may now return to the Bundesliga intending to build on his record of 36 in 85 German top-tier games with Wolfsburg.
