Newcastle ace expected to be fully fit for clash with Tottenham – report

Joelinton is expected to be fit for Newcastle United’s trip to Tottenham on Sunday, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claimed on their website that the hip injury suffered in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Norwich is not deemed to be serious and shouldn’t rule the Brazilian out.

The Telegraph reports that the 23-year-old went for scans after the Norwich game, and they revealed no significant damage.

Newcastle staff are said to be attempting to keep Joelinton in high spirits after the young forward missed a glaring opportunity to open his account on Saturday, and they fear his confidence could drop because of that.

OPINION

With the apparent forward injury crisis at Newcastle at the moment, this will be great news for the Magpies. Should Joelinton have been forced into a spell on the sidelines, Yoshinori Muto would have been the only fully-fit senior striker available to Steve Bruce. Although the club-record signing has not hit the ground running, Newcastle will be massively relieved that they can give him the opportunity to prove himself in the coming weeks. The 23-year-old should not be too harsh on himself and keep high hopes moving forward. After all, every single striker has gone through a spell of struggling to score before, and Magpies’ fans must not get on his back this early into his career. Joelinton has shown promising signs early on and goals will start to flow if he is given a consistent run in the team. The powerful striker has won five aerial duels on average per game in his first two appearances for the club, and has also averaged 2.5 shots on goal [WhoScored] – and Newcastle fans will have been more worried if he wasn’t getting into those positions to effect games at all. Once his first goal hits the back of the net, a huge sigh of relief will be released and will set Joelinton on the way to scoring many more in years to come.
