Confirmed: 6’5″ Newcastle colossus seals loan exit for 2019/20 campaign

Newcastle United youngster Kell Watts has joined League Two side Stevenage on loan.

The club made the announcement on Friday evening, with the 19-year-old set to spend the remainder of the new season with his new side.

Despite being promoted to the first team during preseason, the decision has been taken that the best course of action for the 6’5″ centre-back [Transfermarkt] is to get regular senior game time under his belt.

OPINION

This is a very good move from the Toon Army. Watts has the potential to be a real player, and his presence as a mainstay of the U23s set up last term would suggest that he has a big future ahead of him. As reported by the Chronicle, Watts played 41 games for the youth side last season, and any player who features as regularly as that must be doing something right. The most striking thing about the teenager is his sheer size, and at 6’5″, he already possesses the physicality needed to compete at a high level. That should stand him in good stead in the lower leagues, where you can expect him to receive a proper education in what it takes to make it in the senior game. This season will no doubt be a tough one for Watts, but if he can come out the other side, it counsel be a really good thing for both him and his parent club.
