Since Steve Bruce joined Newcastle on July 17th, he has asked the fans to judge him on just one thing. That is results. His first test against Arsenal ended in a disappointing but competitive defeat.
The three points were there for the taking but a costly mistake and a chaotic final thirty minutes cost Newcastle what could have been a buoyant start to the season.
As it stands, Newcastle failed to take anything from the game but many will have seen a team that is still trying to figure out what they are. Steve Bruce has only been here a month and we saw a team against Arsenal that spent there first two weeks of pre-season without a manager. That is coupled with them also having a late start to pre-season.
It is going to take time for Steve to mold this squad into the final product. Our new signings are very young and have been brought into a pressure cooker with the situation at the club. Steve is probably the perfect coach for helping these new players settle.
Joelinton and Bruce– both need time to get it right
However, this is Premier League football and the stakes are very high. A failure to get anything out of Norwich City on Saturday will see the storm surrounding the club strengthen.
Newcastle are not United at the moment. The situation with the owner has seen the fanbase fracture and the flaming passions of some become lukewarm.
This can all change, at least for some, with results. A resounding victory on Saturday would be a nice start to salve the wounds of this club. It will by no means be a cure but it would at least be a momentary respite.
Let’s hope the lads can push on and play well on Saturday. We at least are excited to see what they can do after another week together. This group is still in its infancy and each week we hope to see some progress on the pitch.
