Lee Ryder: Newcastle player flying to Italy for talks with Serie A sides over Magpies exit

Newcastle United left back Achraf Lazaar is flying to Italy to begin talks with Serie A sides about a potential Magpies exit, according to journalist Lee Ryder.

The Chronicle reporter revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Friday, claiming that the 27-year-old is on his way to the peninsula for talks.

The Moroccan international earned his move to St James’ Park by flourishing in Italy with Palermo, and now he could be about to return to Serie A.

OPINION

This is a move that needs to be done. Ryder doesn’t specify whether this is a permanent or loan exit for Lazaar, nor does he deign to mentioned the names of any of the clubs the left back will be holding talks with. However, this is a hugely positive step in the right direction for Newcastle and make no mistake. There is too much deadwood at the club at this moment in time, and it very much needs to be shifted. Not only is there Lazaar, but people like Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Jack Colback are somehow all still on Tyneside. They all need to be shifted as soon as possible, and it looks like Lazaar will be the first of them to go. The Moroccan has never settled in the north east and, despite a decent loan spell with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday over the second half of last season, he’s not done enough to extend his stay at the club. Let’s just hope these talks prove to be positive ones.
