With news yesterday that Newcastle were trying to bring in Thiago Maia from Lille, we’re not sure of how serious their reported interest in Amadou was. The defensive midfielder was unsettled at Sevilla after just joining them last summer.
It does, however, look like Steve Bruce wants to bring in another defensive midfielder with the Brazilian Maia as his number one target. This would most likely be the end of the road for Jack Colback at Newcastle if Bruce is able to bring in Thiago Maia.
We also have to wait to see if Isaac Hayden is still a Newcastle player when the transfer window closes. Steve Bruce has mentioned that he remains positive that Isaac will stay at the club.
There have even been talks of a new contract to be offered to the 24-year-old. This, and the fact, that there have been no reports linking Isaac to other clubs recently have us feeling really positive that he will stay this summer.
It will be both an exciting and apprehensive next few days for Newcastle fans as we hope to bring in some new faces while keeping hold of our top players. We will also have to see which of the current group will make the final cut.
With Newcastle seemingly trying to bring in at least two more players, there is going to have to be a few outgoings to get the squad down to 25 players.
Steve Bruce will have some tough decisions to make over the next few days as he shapes this squad for the coming season.
