Newcastle Player Now In High Demand For Potential Move

Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy is drawing interest from multiple Championship clubs. Inside Futbol have a report that the 24-year-old is being tracked by Derby, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, and Huddersfield for a season-long loan move.

Jacob will find if hard to break into this Newcastle squad this coming season. Making it even tougher will be Steve Bruce’s desire to use a 3-5-2 formation with no traditional wingers. Jacob Murphy has made a few appearances this pre-season as a second striker and most recently he made a cameo at right wing-back against St-Etienne.

With Newcastle looking to trim the squad to 25 by Friday, we will likely see a few of our fringe players loaned or maybe even sold over the next few days. We would expect Jacob to be one of those players. He will not get much playing time this season and really needs to have first-team football to aid in his development.

Murphy had a mixed spell on loan the second half of last season at West Brom where he made 15 appearances. With only two years remaining on his contract, Jacob has just not made the grade on Tyneside. He was our top transfer two summers ago when he came in from Norwich for £12m but has failed to have much of an impact.

Jacob Murphy– on loan at West Brom last season

A loan move is the most likely scenario for Murphy for this season as we doubt we will be able to sell him over the next few days. A loan with an option to buy could also be a possibility but there was no mention of any permanent options in the report.

We would expect to see players like Jack Colback, Achraf Lazaar, and also Henri Saivet to be moved over the next few days as well. There is also some increasing interest in Dwight Gayle from West Brom and Leeds. He may be another player that will be moved on despite Steve Bruce’s assertions that he will play a part next season.

However in Gayle’s case, we may see him sold for a sizeable fee. Leeds have just sold their striker Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht for £7m so they will need a replacement. Last season they had a horrid time with depth at the position so they are likely to not make the same mistake again.

West Brom also are short on strikers as Jay Rodriguez has joined Burnley and they are reportedly trying to get Dwight Gayle to the Hawthorns.

Incidentally, Leeds also may have won the race for Inter Milan nineteen-year-old Facundo Colidio who was linked with Newcastle last week. However, he will most likely not be seen as a replacement for Roofe.
