Thiago Maia may have had an underwhelming season at Lille last time out but that has not stopped a section of Newcastle United fans from being blown away by reports that the Tyneside club has launched a bid for the 22-year-old Brazilian. According to French news outlet Le10Sport on Monday, the Magpies have made a loan bid for Maia, who is now set to make a decision on whether he wants to head to the Premier League or join Genoa. It is understood that the Italian side have made a bid to sign Maia permanently, but Newcastle’s loan offer somehow promises him a higher wage. It’s hard to see why so many Newcastle fans are thrilled by the prospect of Maia signing. He started just 11 times in Ligue 1 last season for Lille and has hardly lived up to his billing as being one of the best young defensive midfielders from Brazil [ESPN]. Newcastle could do with someone of his position and Steve Bruce has already signed a couple of 22-years-old this summer. Maybe he is in the market for another one by tabling this loan bid for Maia.

If he pulls off Maia and that PSG center back Sissako, the window will be fully satisfying.Hope he drills them like nuts and surprises everyone.

He’s top drawer. Him with the two Longstaff lads and Hayden for me would be a great four central midfielders.
