Reliable journalist shares how West Brom might be able to finance deal to re-sign Dwight Gayle

West Brom still stand a chance of being able to re-sign Dwight Gayle from Newcastle United before the summer transfer window slams shut at 5pm on Thursday, according to Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.

The former Express & Star reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Monday evening that Albion cannot finance a permanent deal for the 28-year-old striker but they could be able to afford another loan deal if it includes some added options.

It is understood that Gayle wants a permanent move away from Newcastle before the new Premier League season kicks off this weekend but “anything is possible” if he does not get his wish by the transfer deadline.

West Brom’s technical director Luke Dowling has already ruled out a move to re-sign Gayle this summer [Express & Star], but it still seems as though a Hawthorns return is still on the cards for the Magpies centre-forward.

OPINION

West Brom have one of the best managers in the Championship, have vastly reduced the average age of their squad and have made major improvements to their midfield. Although he has signed Kenneth Zohore from Cardiff, one thing that Slaven Bilic is yet to do is strengthen the Baggies strikeforce. Since the end of last season, Albion have lost Jay Rodriguez, who has returned to Burnley on a permanent deal, and Gayle, whose loan deal from Newcastle expired. Gayle was in amazing form for the Black Country side last term as he scored 24 goals in 41 total appearances and many West Brom fans are wondering where their goals are going to come from this season unless they re-sign the ex-Crystal Palace striker. Madeley’s update serves as a bit of a boost for West Brom. It is a deal that is capable of happening but before Newcastle even consider letting Gayle leave on loan again, they will have to sign a replacement striker.
