Alan Nixon in the Sun writes that Newcastle are looking at Bournemouth’s Jordon Ibe as a possible target this summer. This link has really come from nowhere and we are not too sure about this one.
Ibe is generally deployed on the right-wing but can be used as an attacking midfielder or second striker. He seems to be similar to what we already have in terms of what he would add to the squad.
If Newcastle are to bring in another forward, they need to bring in one with a physical presence. Jordon Ibe is certainly a strong talented player but at only 5’8″ he would be very similar in stature to all of our other forwards barring Joelinton.
He also does not seem to fit the 3-5-2 formation that Steve Bruce will use this upcoming season unless he sees Ibe filling a role at right wing-back. Though he certainly is not a defensive-minded player.
Jordon Ibe– Newcastle interested?
Ibe joined Bournemouth three years ago from Liverpool for around £15m in what at the time was a big and surprising capture for the club.
They had just unexpectedly survived their first season in the top-flight and to be able to get in a player many considered to be a rising star was very eye-opening.
He has been sort of a mixed bag at Bournemouth over the past three years. In 88 appearances, he has 5 goals and 9 assists and last season saw him make only 9 starts in the Premier League.
Bournemouth also will be missing David Brooks with an ankle injury for the next three months. Brooks made 20 appearances on the right for Bournemouth so they may not want to let Ibe leave unless they can get someone in. They have been linked to Liverpool’s Harry Wilson over the past week.
We just don’t see too much in this as he really doesn’t provide much in the areas that the squad seem to be lacking. He certainly has the talent to be a success in the Premier League but he just has not put it all together while at Bournemouth.
Ibe has had a very impressive preseason for the Cherries and still is just 23 years old. He is a player that could still improve but just has been very inconsistent in his career thus far.
