Report – Newcastle Linked With Imminent Bid For Portuguese Defender

There is a strange report coming from Turkey that Newcastle may be about to bid for Lille defender Edgar Ié.

The scenario being described is that Lille are after Trabzonspor attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici for €17m and will use part of the funds received from Newcastle’s transfer fee of Edgar Ié to fund the deal.

Sport Witness also have a report on this link referencing the Turkish outlets.

There have been no reports of whether Newcastle have bid or are about to bid for Edgar Ié that we can find.

Ié is a Portuguese central defender who also plays right-back. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Nantes.

He originally came from the Sporting Lisbon youth academy before being bought by Barcelona in 2012. He’s had a few moves since then before ending up at Lille in 2017.

We are not sure that Ié would command much of a fee to help offset what Lille are looking to pay for Yusuf Yazici so there may not be much in this report. Though Newcastle seem to be doing a lot of their business in France this summer.

The twenty-five-year-old does have one cap for Portugal and his lastest transfer to Lille was for around €2.5m.
