PSG Enter Race For Newcastle Target

Foot Mercato are reporting that PSG have joined the race to sign Newcastle’s supposed left-back target Philipp Max.

Max is also reportedly being sought by both Liverpool and Barcelona as cover for their left-back position. Augsburg seem willing to sell Max for £18m.

However, the club may only wish to sell the 25-year-old to a Champions League club.

Stefan Reuter, Augsburg’s sporting director, recently said the following about selling the club’s top players:

“We told players and agents that if players could take the next step and move to a club that plays regularly internationally, we are looking for a solution that will please everyone”

This would seem to rule out Newcastle. Though with clubs like Liverpool, Barcelona, and now PSG looking at Philipp Max, it is unlikely Newcastle would be able to compete for his signature in any case.

Philipp Max– likely to join Champions League club

Newcastle are in desperate need of an adding a left-back this summer and have identified long-term target Stanley N’Soki as the prime candidate.

The news yesterday from France was that Newcastle had offered N’Soki wages that the player found insulting.

It’s hard to know if the player was asking for too much or if Newcastle went in with really low offers. N’Soki is only 20-years-old. However, he does play at PSG so it’s difficult to gauge this situation.

Although Chronicle writer Andrew Musgrove tweeted that he thought the club and player were close on personal terms.

This is another transfer saga that Newcastle fans so often have to endure as we seem to have trouble getting players over the line. It just seems amazing that the Joelinton deal seemed to run so smoothly while these others are so frustratingly tedious.
