In an open game, Newcastle seemed more comfortable and were much the better side. They were all over Hibernian and but for a really good performance by their goalkeeper Ofir Marciano, it could have been 3 or 4 to 1. Joelinton was excellent and seems to be linking very well with Almiron.
But it was Hibs to strike first with a goal at 10 minutes by Stevie Mallan. A few seconds after the goal Matt Ritchie was taken off with what might have been a groin injury. He was replaced by Aarons. This will be a concern for Steve Bruce but hopefully, it is not too serious.
The team changed to a 4-4-2 with Hayden playing on the right. Newcastle kept their composure and continued to attack until Joelinton tied the game up with a very nice goal.

Joelinton really impressed in this first half. Almiron is pressing for his first goal as he was played in by a great pass by Shelvey but had the shot saved by Hibernian keeper Marciano.
After Joelinton was seen to by the medical staff for a slight knock, Sean Longstaff was able to rifle it into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

This was a very good performance by the team so far with a special mention for the play of Joelinton, Almiron, Shelvey, and Longstaff.
